The General Insurance Statistical Agency (“GISA”) operates as a statistical agent on behalf of the insurance regulatory authorities of Alberta, New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, the Northwest Territories, Nova Scotia, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island and Yukon.
GISA is a federally incorporated, not-for-profit corporation governed by a Board of Directors, with representation from the nine participating insurance regulatory authorities, the property and casualty insurance industry, and the public.
The statistical and financial data collected supports participating member jurisdictions in fulfilling the following public policy objectives:
• Monitoring insurance rates to ensure that they are not excessive or unfairly discriminatory;
• Monitoring market structure and performance, and taking steps, if necessary, to restore competition or remedy the problems caused by market instability; and
• Providing aggregate industry data to assist industry in making informed pricing decisions.
